We are back to having a Live Triathlon!
Long considered the east end season opener, the triathlon will be celebrating its 38th anniversary this year. The race consists of a 1 mile swim, 20 mile bike and 6.2 miles run. (*The course must be completed in 3 hours 55 minutes.)
SWIM – The distance is 1 mile in the calm salt water of Lake Montauk. The course is out and back. Since this race is in the spring, wet suits are recommended (water temperature is normally around 55 degrees Fahrenheit).
BIKE – The distance is 20 miles taking you along Montauk historical routes; giving you a bird’s eye view of the famous Montauk Lighthouse. The course is out and back with some hills. Hardshell helmets (ANSE approved) and bar end plugs are mandatory. This race adheres to USAT policy of NO DRAFTING.
RUN – The distance is 6.2 miles through the scenic side of Montauk challenging hills . NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES ON THE COURSE (ex: iPods, MP3 players etc). No water stops on the bike course. However, water stops are at one mile intervals on the run course.
